Discharge Printing

Have you ever heard of waterbased screen printing before?  If not, have you heard of screen printing?  Well discharge printing is just a specialized type of screen printing that uses an ink that contains a discharge agent!  You see, discharge printing is all about taking an existing color out of a garment so that you can deposit the new desired color in its place.  With discharge printing you can get ultra-soft prints on your garments that other types of ink would not be capable of!

What are the “other” inks?  In screen printing, plastisol inks are great because they are vibrant and convenient.  Plastisol inks don’t contain a solvent so they won’t dry up and instead need to be heated to a specified temperature to cure.  However, this curing process stiffens the ink which isn’t ideal for all designs or garments.  That’s where waterbased screen printing can really make a difference!  Waterbased screen printing uses a water based ink mixed with a discharge agent so you get all the benefits of water based ink printing including a light feel and durable print.
