Water Based Screen Printing
Are you interested in water based screen printing, but you aren’t really sure what it is? It wouldn’t be a surprise if you didn’t know, because a lot of people aren’t aware of how the printed garments they wear got to be that way. It’s very likely that you’ve worn garments with the water based screen printing on them before, but you had no idea! Well, now that I’ve got your attention, why don’t we dive into just what water based screen printing is?
Water Based Screen Printing
To make it the benefits of water based screen printing clear, it would be best to contrast it with another widely popular printing method: screen printing with plastisol inks. Plastisol inks are the industry standard since they are easily reclaimed and won’t dry up in the screen due to the lack of a solvent. The ability to reuse plastisol inks helps keep cost down, but it’s not a wonder-method that is free from pitfalls. Printing with plastisol inks can leave a heavy or tough print, especially if you have all over coverage or if you have many colors in the designs. Acryllic screen printing doesn’t have that issue since it’s composed differently.
In water based screen printing, the ink has a solvent, which is typically water, and it makes the print much softer than you can achieve with plastisol inks. When you run your hand over a water based ink print, you’ll barely feel the ink on the surface and after a wash or two it will feel like it’s always been a part of the shirt. For lightweight garments or for all over printing on garments, water based screen printing is advisable to preserve the flowy feeling and keep off the heaviness.
